Step-by-Step Guide

1

Notify SAT of the death

Submit a death notification to the Servicio de Administración Tributaria (SAT) to cancel the deceased's RFC (Registro Federal de Contribuyentes). A notaría pública may be required to formalize the estate.

2

Cancel the e.firma and CSD

Request cancellation of the deceased's electronic signature (e.firma) and digital seal certificates (CSD) at a SAT office. Bring the death certificate and executor credentials.

3

File the final tax declaration

File the deceased's final annual tax declaration for income earned up to the date of death. A contador público (CPA) familiar with Mexican tax law should prepare this.

4

Open the sucesión (estate proceeding)

Engage a notaría pública or go through juicio sucesorio (probate court) to formally distribute assets. This requires the will (testamento) or intestacy proceedings.
