Notify Services Australia
Call Services Australia on 132 300 to report the death. They will update Centrelink, Medicare, and other linked services. Provide the death certificate and your authority to act.
Cancel Medicare and Centrelink
Services Australia will cancel the deceased's Medicare card and any Centrelink payments (Age Pension, Disability Support, etc.). Return any overpayments received after the date of death.
Check bereavement payment eligibility
The surviving partner may be eligible for a Bereavement Payment or Bereavement Allowance through Centrelink. Apply within 14 weeks of the death.
Close the myGov account
Once all linked services are finalised, contact myGov support to close the deceased's account and prevent unauthorized access.
