Step-by-Step Guide
Notify INFONAVIT of the death
Report the death to the Instituto del Fondo Nacional de la Vivienda para los Trabajadores (INFONAVIT). If the deceased had an active housing credit, it may be cancelled through the life insurance included in the loan.
Claim mortgage cancellation insurance
INFONAVIT credits include a seguro de vida (life insurance) that cancels the outstanding mortgage balance upon death. Submit the death certificate and credit documentation to initiate the cancellation.
Claim subcuenta de vivienda savings
If the deceased had no active INFONAVIT credit, the subcuenta de vivienda (housing sub-account) savings within the AFORE can be claimed by beneficiaries as part of the retirement savings claim.
