Step-by-Step Guide
Revoke remote access immediately
Remove the deceased's phone key and any other authorized devices from the Tesla account to prevent unauthorized unlock, start, or tracking of the vehicle.
Warning: Anyone with app access can unlock, start, and locate the vehicle remotely.
Cancel Full Self-Driving subscription
If subscribed to FSD ($199/mo), cancel the subscription through the Tesla account to stop recurring charges.
Claim or forfeit Supercharger credits
Check for any remaining Supercharger credits or referral miles. These are typically non-transferable and tied to the account.
Disable vehicle location tracking
Turn off live GPS tracking and Sentry Mode notifications to protect privacy during the estate process.
Transfer account when vehicle title transfers
Contact Tesla support to transfer the account to the new vehicle owner once the title transfer is complete. Vehicle title transfer is a separate legal process.
