Call Medicare at 1-800-633-4227 to report the death. If Social Security has already been notified, Medicare should be notified automatically, but confirm this directly.

Stop premium deductions
Ensure Medicare Part B and Part D premiums are no longer being deducted from Social Security benefits or bank accounts.
Process final claims
Submit any remaining medical claims to Medicare. Claims can typically be submitted up to one year after the date of service.

If the deceased had a Medicare Advantage plan or Medigap supplement, contact that insurer separately to cancel the policy.
